Bali
Travel Guide -> Getting There & Around| The
international airport on Bali is located near Denpasar in the south
and is called Ngurah Rai. The airport code is DPS. There
are quite a number of flights per day from Australia or the big Asian airports,
like Tokyo, Bangkok, Hong Kong, or Singapore.
Good airlines include Lufthansa, Quantas, Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways. Of course, there is also Garuda Airlines, the national carrier. There are no non-stop flights from Europe or America; the machines always stop in one of the cities mentioned before. Indonesia has changed its visa policy, all visitors need a visa that is granted at the cost of USD 25,00 either upon entry (visitors from most Western countries, but please hceck with your Indonesian embassy, citizens of Ireland e.g. need to get the visa in advance.) The passport and customs procedures at Ngurah Rai are usually very slow, so be prepared for waiting quite a long time. There are money changers at the airport, so that you can easily cash a cheque there. The is an ATM at the airport, but its maximum sum is 500.000 Rupiah (something like 50 US$, not very helpful). You can book flights from abroad or to neighbour islands at the Travelnow Airfare Site It is best to book a taxi at the counter and to ignore the many touts and "guides" loitering in the airport. The
best way to explore the island are rental cars that can be hired
at most hotels and car rental agencies like Avis or Toyota Rent-a-Car.
As we already explained, you should not try to drive yourself, but hire
a driver instead.
