Sightseeing
in Bali ->Amed Beach, Pura Beji, Pura Maduwe Karang
This
tour is done best starting form the east of Bali. You should get up early
and drive through Amlapura to Amed Beach. On the way you can make
a stop at
Taman Ujung Water Palace. There is not much left of the
buildings but it is a very quiet and peaceful place with ducks and geese
swimming in the lake and buffaloes grazing and shadowy trees.
Amed
beach is a black sand beach with clear water in the shadow of Mount
Agung, where snorkeling is very good. The fishermen use small outrigger
boats that are painted in bright colours. You can see them lying on
the sand. The landscape here is different from the rest of Bali; it is
dry and rocky and the sky is always deep blue. On the east coast the main
agriculture are large fruit plantations whose owners enjoy a relative
wealth. You will see houses built of stone instead of the wooden huts in
other parts of the island, and a lot of satellite bowls on the roofs. You
follow the road along to coast up to Kubutambahan near Singaraja in the
north where you can visit Pura Beji and Pura Maduwe Karang.
Both temples are remarkable because of the ornate and detailed stone carvings
in the gates and statues.
The
Pura Maduwe Karang stone carvings include also modern elements, for instance
a dutchman on a flower-wheeled bicycle (see picture above).
From Pura Maduwe Karang drive on to Singaraja and to Lovina Beach and have a late lunch. One the way back you can make a short excursion to the Gitgit Waterfalls, a large waterfall in a valley with clove trees (that is usually very crowded with visitors. |
